Nero belongs to my line of round critters - a series of cute animal mascots with spherical bodies, large feet and utterly adorable faces. This particular plush is a variation on my lion themed critters and is inspired by the Manticore - a mythical creature that is part lion, part bat and part scorpion.
Nero is made from a combination of faux furs and polar fleece in shades of red and black. He has a cute oval shaped face, with a triangular shaped nose at its center and yellow eyes that really stand out against the red of his fur. The mane that surrounds his face and ears is black and covers almost half of his body. A pair of semi-posable webbed wings extend from his sides, where the mane and body meets. Instead of a lion's tail, Nero has a scorpion's tail that is split into five segments and ends in a large stinger. The tail itself is floppy and does not stand on its own but can easily be propped up against a wall or similar for it to remain in an upright position. Nero has four large paws that are firmly attached to his belly and have black paw pads appliqued on them.
Nero has been made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entirely pet free as I have a cat.
Nero's body is made from regular faux fur with a pile length of 10 mm. The mane is made from shaggy faux fur with a pile length of up to 60 mm. The feet, wings and tail are made from polar fleece. Special care has gone into the making of the wings. The paw pads are made of regular fleece and have been appliqued onto the paws. Synthetic suede, a fabric that resembles brushed leather, has been used to cover the nose for a more exclusive finish. The eyes and nose measure 30 mm across and are made of plastic. Both eyes and nose are of safety standard and are locked into place by washers. The body and feet have been stuffed with siliconized polyester fibres.
